Man Speeding in Parking Garage Kills Pedestrian, Injures Another
A parking garage in Dallas’s Northpark Center mall was the scene of the death of one man and the serious injury of another on Monday, March 11th.
C. Shaw, 28, sped through the parking garage in his sedan and struck two men. Y. Luo, aged 42, was killed. The other victim, also in his early 40s, fell out of the garage’s second floor and onto the street upon impact. According to FOX 4 News, “Police have not released the condition of the second victim, but they say he is still hospitalized and is alert and talking.”
Shaw was also hospitalized following the incident, and is reported to be in critical condition. He has been charged with manslaughter and could be charged with other crimes if he survives.
Manslaughter is considered a second degree felony in the state of Texas, and is punishable by a minimum of two years and a maximum of twenty years in prison. Additionally, offenders could be responsible for paying a fine of up to $10,000. In Texas, vehicular manslaughter charges can potentially be coupled with criminally negligent homicide charges and crimes of reckless driving, as well as other vehicle-related offenses. The status of the offender’s license and their intoxication level, if any, can raise supplementary charges.
